Updating GST

On Tuesday, January 1, 2008, the GST needs to be updated so that it is 5%, not 6%. A utility has been created to make this process easier.
First, ensure that the end of day has run successfully for December 31st. One way to check is when you open POSability and open the register, a screen like this will appear if there are any open sales.

If there are any open sales, run the end of day for the previous day.

Once you’ve ensured that sales for December 31st have been closed, Exit POSability. Then double-click on the Tax Utility icon that should be on your desktop.

The first step is to confirm your province. If the province is correct, click Continue.

If the province is not correct, click Change.

Select the correct province from the list.

Then click Update.

Then click Continue.

The second step is to choose the GST and change the rate. Double-click the GST.

Adjust the rate to 5 and click Update.

Click Finish.

When this screen appears, click Exit.

*Note: The taxes in the list may be different than what you see. If there is a GST or Goods & Services Tax listed, ensure that it is changed to 5%. Also, depending on how your system is configured, there may not be a step 2.
